Al-Jazirah Chair for Intl. Journalism Set Up
H.E. Professor Abdullah Al-Uthman, Rector of King Saud University, and Mr. Mutlaq Al-Mutalq, Board Chairman of Al-Jazirah Foundation for Journalism, Printing and Publishing, inked a four-year contract to set up Al-Jazirah Chair for International Journalism financed by Al-Jazirah Newspaper.
The contract was signed in presence of professor Aly Al-Ghamdy, Vice-Rector for Branch Affairs, Mr. Khalid Al-Malik, Editor-in-Chief of Al-Jazirah Newspaper, Mr. Abdul-Rahman Ar-Rashid, Director General of Al-Jazirah Foundation, Professor Doctor Sulaiman Al-Aqeel, Dean of College of Arts, Professor Ibrahim Al-Baeaz, Head of Mass Communication Department, along with a number of mass communication professors.
In statements after signing the contract, Al-Uhtman said that the target behind establishing scientific researches chairs was helping further partnership with the community. The door was open for individuals; foundations; companies; banks to take national initiatives like financing the research chairs, he added. This was a jump ahead towards creativity and excellence, he stressed.
Praising Al-Jazirah Newspaper for preceding others to finance a research chair for journalism studies, Al-Uthman said,” AL-Jazirah Newspaper will be a major partner to the university in developing the mass communication department thanks to financing the chair. It will lure both distinctive experts in mass communication field and distinguished postgraduates. It will conduct training courses and workshops for the Al-Jazirah members of staff and undergraduates.”
”We thank professor Al-Uthman for his strenuous efforts. Through this cooperation, we will be keen on transferring the real image of the university activities to the community on one hand, and benefiting from the university potentials in researching and training on the other”, Al-Mutalq said.
Taking the floor, Mr. Al-Malik delivered a speech in which he praised the rector for making the financial institutions get involved in media field, particularly that of journalism.
